Mesa Piano Instructor Receives Honored Teacher Award
Mesa, AZ – The Arizona State Music Teachers Association (ASMTA) recently presented its 2016 Honored Teacher Award to longtime Mesa resident, Debbie Saifi, owner of Red Mountain Piano Studio.
The ASMTA Honored Teacher Award was created to recognize teachers from around the state who have contributed their time and talents to their district and state organizations. Saifi was nominated by the East Valley Music Teachers Association (EVMTA) where she currently serves as Vice-President.
“I enjoy teaching all levels of students,” says Saifi. “I am always looking for new ideas to motivate and encourage the learning of music. My goal is to guide students to discover that one special thing that will ignite their own passion.”
A piano instructor for 30 years, Saifi is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music with permanent professional status. Her teaching philosophy is that no two students are alike. “To be a successful teacher,” she says, “I’ve learned to tailor lessons to each individual student’s learning style, strengths, weaknesses, interests, and goals.”
Saifi started giving piano lessons as a teen after being volunteered by her mother to teach a neighbor’s children. She discovered that she really enjoyed it and her “studio” grew quickly by word of mouth. She joined the Arizona State Music Teachers Association as a student member in 1984 and began entering her students in the Piano Ensemble, Music in the Mall, and the Arizona Study Program.
“My passion for teaching creates a desire for learning,” says Saifi, who continues to take private lessons even as an instructor. “I hope to never stop being a student,” she says.
